ISLAMABAD: Microsoft has announced to shut down Skype, the video-calling service, this year in May.
The iconic internet chat and calling service, owned by Microsoft, shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), marking the conclusion of a journey that began in 2003.
Skype was once the leading platform for communication in the mid-2000s. For years, Skype had been a go-to platform for both personal and professional communication.
“Starting in May 2025, Skype will no longer be available,” the announcement stated. “In the coming days, you can sign in to Microsoft Teams Free with your Skype account to stay connected with all your chats and contacts. Thank you for being part of Skype.”
According to Anadolu News Agency, Microsoft Teams will offer users many of Skype’s core features, including one-on-one and group calls, messaging, and file sharing.
