SUKHUM: The second round of the presidential election in Abkhazia is considered valid, Central Election Commission Chairman Dmitry Marshan said on Saturday after voter turnout reached 43%.
The presidential runoff saw independent candidate Badra Gunba, who won the first round on February 15 with 46.38% of the vote, race against opposition leader Adgur Ardzinba, who came second with 36.92%.
Voting for the second round of the presidential elections is currently in progress in Abkhazia.
The first phase of the elections was completed last month.
In the initial round, five candidates contested for the presidency.
According to election officials, a total of 143,000 voters are registered to cast their ballots in the runoff phase.
