TORKHAM: Pakistani and Afghan forces exchanged fire at the Torkham border, using heavy weapons.
As a result of firing, three persons- two civilians and a security personnel- were injured. A truck driver suffered a heart attack during the chaos and died.
According to details, the situation on the border has been tense for the past ten days and the border crossing has been closed for pedestrian traffic and commercial activities.
Yesterday, a meeting was held to reduce tensions and open the border. During the meeting, they agreed to share each other’s demands with higher authorities and resolve the issue through dialogue until the second meeting.
Later, the security forces from across the border restored firing at Ayub post, prompting Pakistani border security forces to retaliate.
Amid the chaos, a truck driver suffered a fatal heart attack as drivers and passengers panicked. Several others sustained minor injuries.
Landi Kotal Hospital confirmed that Shakir Khan, a resident of Zakha Khel, was brought in with gunshot wounds to his hands and feet. Doctors stated that he is out of danger and receiving treatment.
The situation remains tense, and security forces on both sides remain on high alert.
