PHC grants protective bail to PTI lawmakers

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar high court (PHC) on Thursday granted protective bail to the national assembly lawmakers of the Pakistan Tehreek-I-Insaf (PTI) until April 15. The lawmakers were nominated in various cases by the FIA and the Punjab police.

Justice Sahibzada Asadullah and Justice Sabitullah Khan heard the petition filed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf members of the National Assembly Shehryar Afridi, Dawar Kundi and member of the Provincial Assembly Sohail Afridi in the Peshawar High Court for details of the cases.

The court granted protective bail to the three members of the assembly until April 15. The three PTI leaders will not be arrested until then. The court also issued orders to them to appear in the relevant courts.

During the hearing of the case of former federal minister and member of the National Assembly Shehryar Afridi, the Assistant Attorney General told the court that according to the FIA report, there is no case against Shehryar Afridi, while the report of the Interior Department has 8 FIRs registered against the petitioner in Islamabad, the details of which have been recorded.

The court disposed of the case on the details of the case on the reply of the Assistant Attorney General.

In the case of PTI Member of National Assembly Dawar Khan Kundi, the Attorney General’s Office also presented the details of the cases, according to which three FIRs have been registered against Dawar Khan Kundi in DI Khan.

The court has issued orders to appear before the relevant courts and not to arrest Dawar Khan Kundi until April 15.

On the other hand, an FIR was registered against PTI Member of Assembly Shandana Gulzar in Punjab under the Cyber Crime Act, against which she approached the Peshawar High Court. Today, the court of the Acting Chief Justice granted protective bail to Shandana Gulzar until March 23 and directed her to appear before the relevant court. Along with this, orders have been issued to all institutions not to arrest her in any case until March 23.

Similarly, during the hearing of the application of Member of Provincial Assembly Sohail Afridi for details of the cases, the Attorney General informed the court that there is no case against Sohail Afridi in Punjab Anti-Corruption, Rawalpindi and FIA, while six FIRs have been registered against him in the Interior Department, Islamabad. The court also issued orders to Sohail Afridi to appear in the relevant courts and not to arrest him until April 15. On the request of the petitioner’s lawyer, the court issued a notice to the provincial government.

In the application filed by the provincial minister for population welfare of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Syed Qasim Ali, the Peshawar High Court granted him bail until April 15 and sought details of the cases against him from the relevant institutions.
