Islamia College Peshawar Retrieves 55 Kanal Land from Illegal Occupants, Plans Expansion and Heritage Restoration

PESHAWAR: In a significant development, Islamia College Peshawar (ICP) has successfully reclaimed 55 kanals of land in Sabzi Mandi, Charsadda, which had been illegally occupied by a vegetable market. ISlThe retrieval, facilitated by the efforts of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur, marks a major step toward addressing the institution’s financial challenges and expanding its infrastructure.

The land, which was under illegal occupation for an unspecified period, will now be utilized to enhance ICP’s academic programs and infrastructure. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zia Ul Haq expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Gandapur, the Minister of Higher Education, and the district administration for their role in resolving this long-standing issue.

“This landmark achievement reflects the government’s commitment to supporting higher education and fostering institutional growth,” stated an official release. The provincial government plans to invite investors to develop high-rise buildings on the retrieved land in Sabzi Mandi and Dobi Got, further boosting the college’s resources.

In a parallel initiative, the Archaeology Department and the Higher Education Department have joined forces to restore ICP’s historic heritage structures, including the iconic Burj Hari Bangalow, which once housed the first governor of the province. This move aims to preserve the college’s rich history while modernizing its facilities.
