RAWALPINDI: Security forces killed three militants in an intelligence-based operation in Tank district, the military’s media wing reported on Saturday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation was carried out based on reports of the presence of Khawarij militants.
“During the operation, troops effectively engaged the Khawarij hideout, eliminating three militants,” the ISPR statement said, adding that weapons and ammunition were recovered from them. The slain militants were reportedly involved in attacks on security forces and civilians.
A sanitization operation is ongoing to clear the area of any remaining threats, as Pakistan’s security forces remain committed to eradicating terrorism, ISPR stated.
President Asif Ali Zardari commended the forces for their successful operation, emphasizing the government’s resolve in combating militancy. He reaffirmed national support for security personnel and stressed the continuation of counterterrorism efforts.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also lauded the forces for their swift action in neutralising the militants.
Meanwhile, authorities have issued a security alert in North Waziristan over potential terrorist attacks on government installations and officials.
A threat alert from the Deputy Commissioner of North Waziristan warned of planned attacks on government facilities and security personnel. In response, all institutions have been directed to remain vigilant and enforce strict security measures.
Law enforcement agencies have been instructed to closely monitor suspicious activities and enhance security around key locations to prevent any incidents.
