KHYBER: Residents of Khyber tribal district organized a peace march to protest the ongoing tensions at the Torkham border and the prolonged closure of the border crossing.
The march was attended by local community members and representatives from various organizations, all calling for peace and stability in the region.
During the event, speakers addressed the crowd, stating that war is not a solution and urging both Pakistan and Afghanistan to resolve their disputes through dialogue.
They highlighted the severe economic impact of the border tensions, with billions lost on both sides. The speakers stressed the importance of reopening the border for trade and creating employment opportunities through peaceful policies.
The speakers also raised concerns about the worsening security situation, noting that residents of Bacha Meena have started migrating due to the instability.

March participants chanted slogans in favor of peace and called on both governments to take immediate steps to restore diplomatic relations and ensure regional stability. They emphasized that peace, not conflict, is the only way forward.
The Torkham border has been closed for 15 consecutive days following clashes between Pakistani and Afghan border forces. The tensions were triggered by construction on disputed land by Afghan authorities, which led to an exchange of gunfire. The closure has further strained relations and disrupted daily life for those living near the border.
