Khyber: A 41-member jirga from Afghanistan is set to arrive today to address the ongoing tensions at the Torkham border between Pakistan and Afghanistan. The jirga, which includes tribal elders, business representatives, and community leaders from both sides, aims to restore trade, reduce tensions, and establish lasting peace.

The Torkham border has been closed for 16 consecutive days, halting all types of traffic, including trade and foot movement. The closure has reportedly caused Pakistan to lose $3 million in daily exports. The main issue stems from Afghanistan’s construction activities within Pakistan’s borders, which has led to disputes and heightened tensions over the past two weeks.

The 40-member tribal jirga on the Pakistani side will engage in discussions with the Afghan delegation to resolve the border issue. Both sides hope the jirga will play a key role in ending the standoff and reopening the border for trade and movement.

The closure has severely impacted businesses and communities on both sides, with many calling for a swift resolution to the dispute. The jirga’s efforts are seen as a critical step toward restoring normalcy and fostering better relations between the two neighboring countries.
