KHYBER: The first round of the “Loya Jirga” on the closure of the Torkham border crossing and the closure of construction work in the disputed areas due to the recent tension on the Pak-Afghan Torkham border has concluded, and deligations pledgeda border ceasefire.
The Jirga agreed to maintain peace between the two countries and expressed mutual consent. The Afghan Jirga members have sought time to discuss the issues under discussion with the Afghan authorities. A session will be held tomorrow on the call of the Afghan Jirga.
Detailed discussions were held between the Jirga leaders on the following issues between Pak-Afghan on the Torkham border.
There will be a ceasefire and peace treaty until the twentieth day of Eid-ul-Fitr. There was a positive discussion on stopping construction work at the disputed site, opening the Torkham border for bilateral trade activities and pedestrian traffic.
The Afghan Jirga elders have sought time from the National Jirga elders of Pakistan until tomorrow, Monday evening.
The Afghan Jirga elders will discuss the aforementioned demands in consultation with the Afghan CM and other officials regarding the aforementioned Jirga.
The second session of the Jirga elders of both countries regarding the Pak-Afghan border Torkham will depend on the call of the Afghan Jirga elders.
