State bank announces new monetary policy

 

KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) announced its Monetary policy for the next two months on Monday. The interest rate will remain at 12 percent.

The State Bank of Pakistan maintained the interest rate policy at 12 percent for the next two months.

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) unveiled its latest monetary policy on Monday.

According to a statement issued earlier, the central bank’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) will convene to assess the overall economic and financial situation before announcing its decision through the Monetary Policy Statement, however, it emerged on Monday with the decision of maintaining the policy rate at 12 percent for the coming two months.

Currently, the SBP’s interest rate stands at 12 per cent, while inflation dropped to a record low of 1.52 per cent in February. Experts suggest the central bank could lower the interest rate by one to two per cent.

It should be noted that Governor State Bank Jamil Ahmed, while addressing a news conference in Karachi, reduced the interest rate for the fourth time, after which the interest rate came to 12%.
