KP govt unveils Peshawar projects amid PTI dissents

KP govt spends only 25 percent of development budget in 8 months

PESHAWAR : In response to recent criticism from PTI Peshawar, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has unveiled a comprehensive list of ongoing and upcoming development initiatives aimed at transforming Peshawar’s infrastructure, transportation, and economic landscape. With a focus on urban modernization, job creation, and improved public services, the projects collectively represent a multi-billion-rupee investment in the city’s future.

A significant portion of the Rs 450 million allocated this fiscal year targets transportation upgrades. Seventy new BRT buses have been introduced on the Nasir Bagh and Pabbi Tarnab routes, expanding daily ridership by 55,000 passengers, complementing the existing 300,000 daily commuters. Additionally, construction of the Peshawar Bus Terminal is underway, poised to streamline travel for 2 million passengers annually while generating over 5,000 jobs. A Rs 70 million U-turn bridge on Nasir Bagh Road aims to ease traffic for 5,000 residents.

Further, 125 km of road rehabilitation across 16 approved schemes has received Rs 1,175 million in funding.

Residential projects feature prominently, with 144 modern flats under construction in Hayatabad Phase 5 and a sprawling 80,000-unit housing project at the Peshawar-Nowshera junction. These initiatives aim to address urban housing demands while stimulating local economies.

Officials emphasized that the projects align with broader goals to boost tourism, preserve heritage sites, and elevate Peshawar’s status as a regional hub for trade and livability.
