WELLINGTON: Michael Bracewell will captain New Zealand in the five-match T20I series against Pakistan, starting on March 16.
The squad features a mix of experienced players and fresh faces. Several stars from the silver-medal-winning Champions Trophy team were not considered, nor were players with IPL commitments.
This will be Bracewell’s second stint as captain. He previously led New Zealand on their Pakistan tour in April 2024. “Mitch Santner has done a great job as white-ball captain. I’ll look to build on his work and create an enjoyable environment,” Bracewell said in an NZC statement. “Pakistan are a dangerous short-form side with power and pace. They’ll be eager to bounce back after their early Champions Trophy exit.”
Fast bowler Ben Sears has returned from a hamstring injury. Leg-spinner Ish Sodhi, who missed the recent Sri Lanka series, is also back. Pacers Kyle Jamieson and Will O’Rourke will play only the first three games as selectors manage their workloads.
New Zealand will aim to test their depth while facing a determined Pakistan side in this high-stakes home series.
