Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed support for a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, emphasizing the need for a resolution that ensures long-term peace and addresses the root causes of the ongoing crisis.
Putin stated that while a ceasefire is necessary, the plan must be comprehensive and involve discussions with international partners, including American officials.
In response, U.S. President Donald Trump urged Russia to take the right steps toward peace, expressing hope for a ceasefire.
Trump described Putin’s statement as positive but incomplete, adding that he is open to further dialogue with the Russian leader.

He acknowledged potential disruptions in the process but expressed confidence that they would be short-lived, noting NATO’s increased efforts in the region.
Meanwhile, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg highlighted the alliance’s need to ramp up weapons production, citing concerns about falling behind Russia and China in military capabilities. Stoltenberg emphasized the importance of strengthening defense systems to maintain global stability.
