SWAT: Swat Police on Friday launched a large-scale operation against professional beggars roaming in Mingora city and adjacent bazaars and causing problems for the local people, particularly those coming for shopping amid Eid-ul-Fitr preparations.
According to Swat Police Spokesperson Moin Fayyaz, a police team led by the station house officer of the Woman Police Station arrested several women and children, including beggars, during mobile patrols and other operations in different areas of Mingora City.
The police spokesperson said the arrested female beggars were not only professional beggars but there were reports of them being involved in robberies that took place in the city.
Police said that these beggars include local and non-local women, against whom cases have been registered at the Women Police Station under the Begging Act. Swat Police has made it clear that these operations would be continued against the beggars to maintain social order and root out the begging network.
