PESHAWAR: Awami National Party (ANP) leader and Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) Nisar Baaz Khan has raised concerns over the closure of trade crossings between Pakistan and Afghanistan, which he says has severely impacted bilateral trade.
In an exclusive interview with Pakhtun Digital, Khan revealed that 17 trade crossings once facilitated a $5.5 billion trade volume between the two nations.
However, these crossings were shut down under the pretext of security concerns, leaving only two operational crossings in Quetta and Torkham. These too were recently closed by authorities following a border clash.
Khan emphasized the need for diplomatic resolution to the ongoing issues, urging both countries to avoid disrupting cross-border trade over minor disputes.
He highlighted the significant economic losses suffered by traders on both sides due to the closure of the Torkham Crossing.
The ANP leader also criticized the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government, accusing it of neglecting the province’s interests.

He claimed that the KP government, during its 12-year rule, has focused more on protesting against the federal government rather than delivering tangible results for the province.
