Instagram is reportedly developing a new short video app, potentially rivaling TikTok, as the Chinese-owned platform faces ongoing scrutiny in the United States.
Meta, Instagram’s parent company, has not officially confirmed the plans but is said to have discussed the idea during a recent internal meeting with employees.
The new app is expected to be linked to Instagram, similar to how Threads, Meta’s microblogging platform, integrates with Instagram accounts.

The move comes as TikTok’s future in the U.S. remains uncertain. President Joe Biden recently repealed a ban on the app, but a new law requires TikTok’s U.S. operations to be sold to an American entity or face a potential ban. TikTok has yet to make a decision regarding its U.S. operations.
Meta has not provided further details about the rumored app, leaving its development and launch timeline unclear.
