Tarbela Dam’s water level reaches dead level

SWABI: The water storage in Tarbela Dam, the largest power production and reservoir in the region, has reached a critical level as of Sunday. The current water level stands at 1,404 feet, while the dead level is 1,402 feet.

Additionally, the inflow of water into Tarbela Dam has decreased. Currently, 499 MW of electricity is being generated from 8 out of 17 production units, as 9 units have been shut down. The full capacity of the dam allows for generating up to 4,888 MW of electricity.

The water level in the dam is declining at an alarming rate, with only 2 feet of usable storage remaining. Dam sources indicate that water storage has been significantly depleted. Water released from the dam will be managed according to the inflow. Currently, the inflow of water into Tarbela Dam is 14,400 cusecs, while the outflow is 20,000 cusecs.
