Fake delivery challans expose Rs 1.25 billion fraud in KP health depth

PESHAWAR: A corruption scandal of Rs 1.25 billion has surfaced in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Health Department. Funds were released without supplying medicines.

Aaj news cited National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reported that the department issued fake delivery challans in purchasing medicines.

NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa completed its inquiry. Investigators found corruption in medicine purchases during fiscal year of 2023-24.

The government issued supply orders worth Rs 4.4 billion last year. It paid over Rs 4 billion to 50 companies in 2024.

Former DG of Health Dr. Shaukat Ali revealed that most payments were made before delivery. He said all companies had supply obligations under the contract.

Dr. Shaukat stated that authorities removed him from his post in 2025. The court later accepted his stance. He claimed that officials issued new supply orders in 2025-26 to companies that should have been blacklisted.

He added that the department issued notices to firms that failed to supply medicines.
