ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Saudi Arabia may celebrate Eid al-Fitr on the same day this year. Astronomers predict this based on moon sighting calculations.
Experts say the Shawwal moon will not be visible in Saudi Arabia on March 29. However, on March 30, the crescent will be clearly visible in Pakistan.
Meteorologists confirm that the moon will be visible to the naked eye in most parts of the world on March 30.
Astronomers state that on March 30, the moon in Makkah will be 28 hours and 38 minutes old. In Karachi, it will be 26 hours and 50 minutes old. Clear skies will increase the chances of sighting.
The Sindh government has announced Eid holidays from March 31 to April 2, following the federal government’s decision.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet on March 30 in Islamabad to confirm the moon sighting.
