PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has formally urged President Asif Ali Zardari to convene the 10th National Finance Commission (NFC) to address the province’s financial grievances following the merger of the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).
In a letter to the president, Gandapur highlighted that the 25th Constitutional Amendment integrated FATA’s 5.7 million residents into KP, yet the financial resources for these areas remain under federal control. He argued that the continuation of the seventh NFC Award, originally issued in 2010, is unconstitutional and deprives the province of its rightful share.
“The extension of the seventh NFC Award after the 25th Amendment is illegal and against Article 160 of the Constitution,” Gandapur stated. He emphasized that KP is being denied its legitimate financial rights, hindering development, law enforcement, and stability in the merged districts.
The chief minister demanded that the population of the merged districts be included in KP’s financial allocations and called for immediate resource distribution to the province.
