Climate change minister represents Pakistan at Samarkand Climate Conference

SAMARKAND: Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Musadik Malik, represented Pakistan at the international climate conference held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, where global leaders convened to address the environmental challenges facing Central Asia.

The conference, titled “Central Asia Facing Global Climate Challenges: Consolidation for Shared Prosperity”, took place from April 4 to 5, drawing participation from heads of state across Central Asia, European Union leadership, high-level officials from international organisations, and experts from Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

Organised under the framework of the Samarkand Initiative for Solidarity in the Name of Common Security and Prosperity—announced by the President of Uzbekistan in 2022—the event aimed to foster a global platform for dialogue on contemporary challenges, with a focus on collective security and sustainable development.

During the conference, Minister Malik engaged in bilateral meetings with key global figures, discussing topics such as climate resilience, green financing, and regional cooperation on environmental sustainability. His engagements included discussions with UAE Minister for Energy and Infrastructure, Suhail Al Mazroui; Mohammad Abunayyan, CEO of Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power; and the climate advisor to the President of Azerbaijan.

Malik also addressed the high-level session, “Climate Change in Focus: Building the Future Through Joint Action”, where he highlighted Pakistan’s climate initiatives, policy priorities, and success stories in tackling the climate crisis.

His participation underscored Pakistan’s continued commitment to international climate diplomacy and the pursuit of collaborative, sustainable solutions in the face of escalating global environmental challenges.
