SHANGLA: District Police Officer (DPO) Shangla survived an assassination attempt when a remote-controlled bomb blast hit his convoy in the Shekolai area of the district on Saturday.
DPO Shah Hassan’s convoy came under attack while he was heading toward the checkpost where police had earlier repulsed a terror attack.
Earlier, Shangla Police foiled a terrorist attack on the Choga police station late last night. The attackers, identified as members of Fitna-ul-Khawarij, launched the assault at midnight using light and heavy weapons.
To visit the site, DPO Shangla Shah Hassan’s convoy was attacked near Doakhuwaro Shekolai Mor, in the jurisdiction of Choga Police Station.
He and his team members remained unharmed in the blast.
Police have cordoned off the entire area and launched a large-scale search and strike operation.
Earlier, Fitna-ul-Khawarij members launched an assault on the Choga police station at midnight using light and heavy weapons.
Police officers responded immediately and with full force. A heavy exchange of gunfire took place between the attackers and the police. The terrorists eventually fled, unable to withstand the swift and fierce retaliation.
During a follow-up search operation, police discovered signs of the terrorists’ retreat at several locations. Their scattered tracks confirmed a hasty escape.
Shangla Police once again proved their strength and readiness, preventing the terrorists from causing any damage.
Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, praised the officers for their courage.

He said the morale of the police force remains high and they are always prepared to confront any threat.
The IGP announced cash rewards and commendation certificates for the brave officers who defended the post.
