KP will oppose water rights violations, stands with Sindh: Gandapur

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa KP Chief Minister CM Ali Amin Gandapur on Wednesday reaffirmed his province’s stance on water rights, vowing to oppose any region taking more than its allocated share under the 1991 Water Accord while asserting solidarity with Sindh.

Gandapur clarified that KP supports provinces receiving water “according to their rights” but will resist those exceeding their quotas. He emphasized the 1991 agreement, which guarantees KP’s share, stating, “We cannot compromise on what we are entitled to.”

The chief minister criticized past governments for neglecting KP’s infrastructure needs, noting that while canals were built for other provinces, KP’s Chashma Right Bank Canal (CRBC) project remained stalled. He announced allocating 35% of resources to the ongoing canal project, claiming it would irrigate 3 million acres of land and boost national food security.

Gandapur also defended PTI’s founder, stating, “There is no case against him,” and dismissed notions of “supremacy” in governance. He reiterated PTI’s readiness to back the party’s strategies, saying, “Our existence is to protect everyone’s rights.”
