Modi govt compels BCCI to axe India-Pakistan bilateral cricket

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced it will no longer play bilateral cricket series with Pakistan following a deadly attack in Pahalgam, Indian-occupied Kashmir. BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla stated, “We will not play Pakistan in any bilateral series in the future,” aligning with the Indian government’s stance.

Shukla condemned the Pahalgam attack, which killed 26 people, and emphasized that India would only face Pakistan in ICC tournaments due to international obligations. India last hosted Pakistan in a bilateral series in 2012-2013 and last visited Pakistan for the 2008 Asia Cup.

The decision comes amid heightened tensions after India blamed Pakistan for the attack without investigation and suspended the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, brokered by the World Bank.
