U.S. President Donald Trump stated that India and Pakistan must resolve their escalating tensions independently, following a deadly attack in Indian-occupied Kashmir’s Pahalgam area that killed 26 tourists. Trump acknowledged strained ties but avoided confirming any mediation role, saying, “Both countries will resolve it one way or another.”
The U.S. State Department condemned the attack and called for accountability but refrained from taking a stance on Kashmir. Spokesperson Tammy Bruce said Washington is “monitoring” the situation, sidestepping queries about Trump’s earlier offers to mediate. Meanwhile, India suspended the Indus Water Treaty and expelled Pakistani diplomats, prompting Pakistan to retaliate with visa bans and airspace closures.
