Hurriyat Conference Calls for Strike in Kashmir Over India’s Waqf Act, Domicile Policy

The All-Party Hurriyat Conference has announced a strike in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, protesting India’s controversial Waqf Amendment Act and its decision to grant domicile rights to non-locals. The group labeled the Waqf law an attack on the “political, religious, and social identity” of Kashmiris and Indian Muslims, accusing New Delhi of undermining their rights.

A protest march is planned in Srinagar against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policies, with the Hurriyat alleging India is using “false flag operations” to malign Kashmir’s freedom movement. The group urged the international community to hold India accountable for violating UN resolutions on Kashmir and the Indus Water Treaty, calling the moves part of a “nefarious agenda” to alter the region’s demography.
