PESHAWAR: An earthquake jolted various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa today, Saturday, causing panic among residents, but no casualties or significant damage were reported.
According to the National Seismological Centre, a 5.0 magnitude earthquake struck Swat and its surrounding areas, with tremors originating from the Hindu Kush mountain range at a depth of 130 kilometres. The quake’s impact was felt across nearby districts, leaving many residents visibly shaken but safe.
In a separate incident, a 4.9 magnitude earthquake rattled Balochistan’s Zhob region. Seismologists said the tremor, recorded at a depth of 30 kilometres, had its epicentre about 70 kilometres southeast of Zhob.
Although the tremors sparked fear and concern, authorities confirmed that there were no immediate reports of loss of life or serious structural damage. Emergency teams remain on standby as officials warn that minor aftershocks could still follow.
For now, life in the affected areas is slowly returning to normal, but the unsettling memory of the sudden tremors lingers in the minds of many.
