A total of 106.87 million rupees govt property damaged in May 09 incident

ISLAMABAD: The Joint Interrogation Team has submitted details of the damage to government property in the May 9 incidents to the Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court.

These documents contain the official estimate of the damage to Safe City, Rangers and police properties in Lahore in May nine violent incidents. The report of the Joint Interrogation Team (JIT) has been made part of the main challan.

According to documents available with media, a total of 106.87 million rupees were damaged in the May 09 violent incidents in Lahore in the form of cameras, government vehicles and traffic signals. According to the documents, 21 police and Rangers vehicles were destroyed in Lahore, while dozens of government vehicles were damaged within the limits of nine police stations.

Government vehicles suffered damage worth Rs 82.27 million. Twelve vehicles, including a Rangers single cabin, were damaged near Jinnah House, while traffic signals and equipment were damaged worth Rs 5.35 million.

The documents state that Safe City cameras suffered damage worth Rs 14.137 million in the violent protests on May 09. Cameras worth Rs 2.562 million were damaged in Girja Chowk Cantt, and cameras worth Rs 518 million were damaged near Sherpao Pul.

Government property worth Rs 518 million was also damaged at Qurtaba Chowk, Jail Road and Shalimar Square. It is worth noting that military courts have sentenced 85 accused in the May 9 cases, including Imran Khan’s nephew Hassan Niazi.

Hassan Niazi was sentenced to ten years in prison for attacking the Corps Commander’s House in Lahore, while others were sentenced to two to ten years in prison for damaging military installations in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Mardan, Mianwali, Faisalabad, Bannu and other cities.
