ISLAMABAD: Mahmood Khan Achakzai, the head of Tehreek Tahafuz-e-Aain Pakistan (Movement for the Protection of the Constitution of Pakistan), has extended an offer of dialogue to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif without any compromise on the constitution to form a National governemnt.
Addressing a press conference, Achakzai emphasized the need for unity in a time of national crisis. He said, “This is no longer the time to hurl insults at each other. The country is facing immense challenges, and saving the nation requires a united front.” He expressed concern over the deteriorating political environment, accusing the current government of illegitimacy and unconstitutional conduct.
“My earlier warnings were ignored,” Achakzai said. “This government came to power at gunpoint. It has shredded the Constitution and violated democratic norms. How can such a regime be allowed to continue unchallenged?”
He further stated that if and when a meeting is held with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the first and most important question he would ask is “When will you return the power to the people?”
Achakzai’s call for a national government reflects his party’s stance that only an inclusive and consensus-based administration can address the country’s worsening political and economic turmoil. He argued that the current system lacks credibility and public trust, and that any future government must be based on constitutional legitimacy and broad-based representation.
In response to Achakzai’s remarks, senior PML-N leader and former Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has already demonstrated a willingness to engage in dialogue. He revealed that in the past six weeks, the Prime Minister has invited the opposition for talks on three separate occasions.
Rana Sanaullah defended the government’s democratic steps and rejected the notion that it was formed through coercion. “In a democracy, problems are solved through dialogue, not through boycotts and ultimatums,” he said. “We believe in the democratic process and are committed to engaging all stakeholders.”
He added that PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif is also a strong proponent of dialogue and reconciliation, and believes that political parties must rise above personal rivalries to forge a path forward for the country.
“What Pakistan needs most right now is unity, not further division,” said Sanaullah. “All political forces must come together to address the economic challenges, restore institutional stability, and uphold the rule of law.”
