The Afghan interim government has announced it will promote its chargé d’affaires in Islamabad to ambassador rank, reciprocating Pakistan’s decision to appoint an envoy to Kabul. The move follows Pakistan’s upgrade of its own chargé d’affaires, Obaud-ur-Rehman Nizamani, to ambassador yesterday.
In an official statement, Afghanistan’s Foreign Ministry welcomed Pakistan’s decision, calling it “a step toward strengthening relations between brotherly nations.” The mutual appointments signal improving ties after recent diplomatic consultations.
