PESHAWAR: Ahmad Kundi, a member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly, has submitted a notice of attention in the provincial assembly, raising serious concerns over the dismissal of 139 employees from Bacha Khan University (BKUC).
The dismissals were reportedly ordered by the Provincial Minister for Higher Education, with the government citing financial losses as the reason. However, Kundi pointed out that while employees were being laid off, there has been a significant increase in spending on the Vice Chancellor’s Secretariat, fuel, allowances, refreshments, and other expenses.
The notice also highlights that the university has been without a permanent Vice Chancellor for two years, leading to an ongoing administrative crisis. Kundi has demanded a high-level inquiry into the matter, calling for the reinstatement of the dismissed employees, a financial and administrative audit, and action against those responsible for the decision.
The issue has sparked debate over transparency and governance in the province’s higher education institutions.
