Aleema Khan reveals PTI’s post-Muharram Political strategy

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Aleema Khan said that as per the party Chairman Imran Khan, PTI will start a mass mobilisation movement after the 10th of Muharram.

He was talking to journalists outside the Anti-Terrorism Court regarding the party’s upcoming political strategy and the difficult circumstances faced by the party’s founder and incarcerated members.

According to Alima Khan, the party has received direct instructions from Imran Khan to initiate a new phase of political activism following the 10th of Muharram. She shared that the PTI leadership has already devised a comprehensive plan for this movement, signaling a renewed and organised effort to mobilise supporters.

Aleema Khan also revealed the founder’s sharp criticism of recent political developments, specifically referring to the proposed 27th Amendment. She quoted Imran Khan’s powerful statement that, given the current political climate, it might be better to abandon constitutional amendments and instead “establish a monarchy,” underscoring the perceived erosion of democratic processes and the growing authoritarianism in the country.

The PTI leader stressed that their movement is fundamentally about freedom. “The founder has urged the people to stand up and fight for their liberty,” she explained. Imran Khan has also expressed that he would prefer imprisonment over submission to oppression, highlighting his commitment to resist what he terms ‘slavery.’

Aleema Khan provided insight into the harsh realities faced by PTI leaders detained in various prisons. She pointed out that the opposition cannot fathom the extent of the hardships endured by these prisoners.

During a recent meeting, Imran Khan described spending 22 hours daily confined to a small cell, with only two hours allowed outside, stressing the severe restrictions imposed on him.

Drawing a stark contrast, she highlighted the preferential treatment afforded to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, stating that Nawaz Sharif received meals from home and was frequently visited by hundreds of supporters.

This starkly contrasts with the deteriorating conditions faced by Imran Khan, whose privileges, including communication with his children and access to reading materials, have been completely revoked.

Furthermore, she noted that Nawaz Sharif and his daughter enjoyed the comforts of a rest house with full amenities while in custody, illustrating a disparity in how political prisoners are treated based on their affiliations.

Touching on the broader political environment, Aleema Khan remarked on ongoing efforts in Punjab to disqualify 26 members of the provincial assembly, a move she described as a significant challenge for Nawaz Sharif’s camp. “Who will Nawaz Sharif communicate with when so many of his supporters are being targeted?” she questioned.

In conclusion, Aleema Khan’s remarks painted a vivid picture of political struggle, highlighting both the resolve of PTI’s leadership and the systemic challenges they face. Her comments also signaled the party’s determination to continue its activism despite the pressures and restrictions imposed by the current regime.
