ANP lawmaker questions KP govt over ramadan relief transparency

ANP Slams KP Mines Act as 'Attack on Provincial Autonomy

PESHAWAR: Awami National Party ANP lawmaker Nisar Baz Khan on Wednesday  accused the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government of mismanaging the distribution of a Ramadan relief package worth Rs10.2 billion, alleging political bias and nepotism in the process.

In formal questions submitted to the provincial assembly, Khan claimed the Rs10,000-per-family aid was unfairly allocated to “favored individuals” on the recommendations of political figures, bypassing verified beneficiary lists from the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) and Zakat Department. He demanded full transparency, including public disclosure of recipients’ names, national ID numbers, and distribution details at village, constituency, and district levels.

“This aid is the right of the poor and orphans, not a tool to reward political allies,” Khan said, questioning why no “impartial vetting process” was used in opposition constituencies. He criticized the government for ignoring cabinet decisions that mandated elected representatives to select beneficiaries, asking, “Was this package for the deserving or for political gains?”

Khan warned of public protests and legal action if the government fails to investigate the allegations and provide accountability. “Public trust is eroding — transparency is non-negotiable,” he added.
