PESHAWAR: A National Peace Jirga, chaired by Awami National Party (ANP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Mian Iftikhar Hussain, was held on Saturday with participation from political leaders, civil society members, and tribal elders. The jirga emphasized the urgent need for unity in the fight against terrorism.
The session began with a collective prayer for the soul of Maulana Khanzeb, who was martyred in Bajaur, and for lasting peace in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Notable attendees included PPP KP President Muhammad Ali Shah Bacha, PTI Parliamentarians’ Central Secretary General Malik Habib Orakzai, tribal elders Malik Khan Marjan and Shakeel Orakzai, PPP’s Akhunzada Chattan, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Inayatullah Khan and Maulana Abdul Rasheed, JUI-F Senator Maulana Attaur Rehman and former Senator Abdul Rasheed Khan, Mufti Kifayatullah, JUI-S leader Ameen Rehman, Mazdoor Kisan Party’s Adil Mahmood, PkNAP’s Advocate Haider Momand, KP Chamber of Commerce President Fazal Muqeem Yousafzai, MPA Shakeel Khan, QWP spokesperson Tariq Khan, former KP Governor Shaukatullah Khan, and former MPA Malik Tahmash Khan, among others.
Participants shared various recommendations on restoring peace in the region. The jirga concluded with an official declaration stressing collective resolve and unity to counter terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
