ANP protests misleading portrayal of Buneris in ‘The Diplomat’ movie

PESHAWAR: The Awami National Party (ANP) has strongly criticised the filmmakers of the Indian movie ‘The Diplomat’ for its offensive portrayal of Buner and Pakhtuns.

The party announced plans to formally protest by writing a letter to the Indian government.

ANP senior leader and former minister Sardar Hussain Babak condemned the film’s depiction of Pakhtuns as “humiliators.” He called it an insult to their culture and demanded an apology from the Indian government.

“We strongly condemn the offense of the Bunrians and Pakhtuns. The Indian government must apologise,” the former lawmaker said. He said that Pashtun regions, including Buner, are known for their hospitality, peace, and deep respect for women.

Sardar Hussain Babak highlighted Buner’s unique history and condemned its portrayal as anti-women. “As a son of Buner, I strongly denounce this false depiction. We will write to the Indian embassy and demand apology. Such mockery by so-called film industry experts is unacceptable and deeply hurtful,” he said.

He urged the Pakistani and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments to take diplomatic action.

” Pakistani and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments must engage with India and demand an official apology,” he added.
