PESHAWAR : The Awami National Party (ANP) has issued a clear and firm statement declaring that it will not participate in any efforts aimed at destabilising or bringing down the current government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

Speaking on behalf of the party, senior spokesperson Engineer Ihsanullah Khan stressed that ANP remains steadfast in its commitment to democratic values and constitutional processes, rejecting any involvement in undemocratic manoeuvres such as political horse-trading or conspiracies against the provincial government.

During an interview with a private news organisation, Ihsanullah Khan acknowledged that certain political groups within the province have expressed intentions to form a united opposition alliance aimed at challenging the ruling government in KP. However, he was unequivocal in stating that the ANP will not align with such plans, as the party believes that democracy and stability must take precedence over political power struggles. “The ANP’s legacy is built on respect for democratic institutions, and we have no tolerance for tactics that undermine the democratic process,” he said.

The spokesperson also addressed recent political developments, including a high-profile meeting between ANP leader Aimal Wali Khan and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He clarified that the discussion focused on the overall political climate in the country and did not involve any talks about changing or dissolving the KP provincial government. “There was no conversation related to the dismissal or replacement of the provincial government during the meeting,” Ihsanullah Khan said. He dispelled rumours that have been circulating in political circles.

Reiterating ANP’s role as a responsible political force, the spokesperson assured that the party would continue to contribute positively toward the political stability of KP. He highlighted the importance of maintaining a conducive environment for governance and development, stating that political uncertainty and instability would only harm the province’s progress and the welfare of its people.

He further urged all political stakeholders to prioritise the interests of the public and uphold democratic norms to ensure peace and stability. “Our focus remains on working within the framework of the constitution and supporting initiatives that promote good governance and social development in the province,” he added.

This declaration by the ANP comes at a time when political manoeuvring in KP has intensified, with various parties exploring alliances and strategies ahead of upcoming elections. The ANP’s stance sends a strong message that it intends to uphold democratic principles and avoid contributing to political turbulence in the province.
