PESHAWAR: The Awami National Party (ANP) president, Aimal Wali Khan, has expressed concerns over the serious situation at Torkham and Kurram Parachinar and the differences between the governments.
The ANP chief said this in a statement his media wing provided on Monday to Media. He said the current government have completely failed to solve the basic problems of the people, Aimal Wali Khan.
“Clashes have been ongoing between Pakistan and Afghanistan at Torkham for the past three weeks. Due to the ongoing tensions, not only trade but all activities are suspended, and the people on both sides are facing severe difficulties,” ANP president said.
He pointed out that thousands of trucks, containers and commercial vehicles are parked within Pakistani borders, causing losses of billions daily.
He further emphasized that small businessmen, labourers and people who trade daily are being forced to starve.
“The central and provincial governments have maintained complete silence on the entire situation.
Adopting a policy of using force to resolve diplomatic issues is tantamount to hostility towards the people. Pakistan must adopt a diplomatic path to resolve problems with Afghanistan,” the ANP chief expressed concerns.
He said that Awami National Party demands that Torkham be opened for trade activities and general traffic for which the federal government should immediately take steps to control the situation and open Torkham, as well as to resolve the Parachinar issue because of which the people of Kurram have been facing a miserable situation for the past five months.
He said the closure of the Tal-Parachinar main highway has put millions of citizens in difficulty, and even during the holy month of Ramazan, people in these areas are besieged and worried about the necessities of life.
Aimal Wali raised the question that the state become so weak that it cannot even restore the main highway of a district?
He said it should be made clear why serious steps are not being taken to resolve this serious situation.
He said both provincial and federal governments should focus on the real problems of the people instead of more political dramas.
