Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) performes successful surgery of Indian deported siblings

ISLAMABAD: A successful surgery was performed at the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) on two innocent siblings, Abdullah and Minsa, under the special directive of Field Marshal Gen Syed Asim Munir.

“The children returned to Pakistan, and on Field Marshal Asim Munir’s instructions, they were brought to AFIC. After an assessment, a specialised team was formed to plan their treatment, and by the grace of Allah, we achieved success,” he added. The siblings’ father, Shahid Ahmed had expressed heartfelt gratitude to the military leadership and the doctors at the hospital. Ahmed said: “Field Marshal Asim Munir took notice of Abdullah and Minsa’s case, and the AFIC had subsequently carried out the surgery. The children had been awaiting this operation for the past nine years.”

“The AFIC’s dedicated team of doctors had worked tirelessly to ensure the procedure was a success. I am deeply grateful to Field Marshal Asim Munir for taking responsibility for my children. By the grace of Allah Almighty, they are now in much better condition,” he said. Ahmed added, “I may not have been able to bear the emotional burden if things had gone otherwise. The doctors’ efforts are truly commendable.”

AFIC Executive Director Major General (Retd) Dr Naseer Ahmad Somore said, “AFIC is Pakistan’s premier cardiology institute, offering top-tier services for the treatment of cardiac conditions. Abdullah and Minsa had previously travelled to India for treatment; however, Indian hospitals refused to treat them.” AFIC Deputy Commandant Brigadier Dr Khurram Akhtar, added, “We devised a medical plan for Abdullah, which, by the grace of Allah, went well. We are fortunate to have a highly capable medical team. Abdullah’s surgery lasted between five and six hours and was completed.”

Dr Dawood Kamal said, “We provided a treatment plan far superior to that proposed by Indian doctors. Alhamdulillah, both children are now much improved and ready to be discharged home.”
