Armed forces pay tribute to war hero Rashid Minhas on 54th anniversary

78th Independence Day

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s top military leadership today led the nation in paying tribute to a national hero on his 54th death anniversary.

The Chief of Army Staff, General Asim Munir, along with the heads of the navy and air force, honored the memory of Pilot Officer Rashid Minhas, a recipient of Pakistan’s highest military award, the Nishan-e-Haider.

The armed forces issued a statement praising Minhas’s “supreme sacrifice,” which they said represents the highest level of courage and devotion to duty.

The ceremony marked the day in 1971 when the young pilot officer demonstrated what the military called “extraordinary resolve and selflessness.” To protect Pakistan’s sovereignty, he chose to sacrifice his own life rather than surrender.

The military stated that his brave act remains a powerful source of inspiration for both the armed forces and the entire nation. They reaffirmed their commitment to defending the values that Rashid Minhas died for, ensuring his legacy as a symbol of loyalty, courage, and national pride will never be forgotten.
