PESHAWAR: A transgender person was gunned down when armed persons opened fire on him in the Jurisdiction of the Tehkal police station on Tuesday night.
According to police officials, the shooting took place at midnight on Tuesday in United Palza when unidentified gunmen opened fire on Asad, resulting in his death on the spot. Upon receiving the report, local police immediately reached the scene, secured the area, and shifted the body to a nearby hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination. Initial findings suggest the attack may have been targeted, although authorities are awaiting autopsy results and further evidence before drawing any conclusions. The police collected critical evidence from the crime scene, including CCTV footage, bullet casings, and possible fingerprints. A detailed investigation has been launched, and multiple angles are being explored to identify the perpetrators and uncover the motive behind the killing.
Residents have expressed shock and sorrow over the incident, urging authorities to arrest those responsible and ensure justice is served. Friends and members of the transgender community described Asad as a peaceful and socially active individual, noting that he had no known personal enmity. This incident once again highlights the vulnerability of transgender individuals in Pakistan, where they often face discrimination, violence, and a lack of legal protection. Human rights organisations have also raised concerns over the safety of the transgender community and called on the government to take concrete steps to ensure their protection.
Police officials assured the public that efforts are underway to trace the suspects and bring them to justice, promising swift action as the investigation progresses.
