Asia Cup 2025: Bangladesh set 140 run target for Sri Lanka

DUBAI: In their Group B clash of the Asia Cup 2025 T20I at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Saturday, Bangladesh posted 139/5 in 20 overs, giving Sri Lanka a target of 140 runs.

Put in to bat first, Bangladesh endured a shaky start as openers Tanzid Hasan and Parvez Hossain were both dismissed for ducks. Captain Litton Das attempted to stabilise the innings with a knock of 28 but failed to build a lasting partnership.

The middle order also faltered, with Towhid Hridoy run out for 8 and Mahmudullah trapped LBW for 9. At a crucial stage, Jaker Ali (41* off 34) and Shamim Hossain (42 off 34) held the innings together with a vital stand, guiding Bangladesh to a competitive total.

For Sri Lanka, Wanindu Hasaranga impressed with the ball, claiming 2/25, while Nuwan Thushara and Dushmantha Chameera picked up one wicket each.

Earlier, Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to field. Captain Charith Asalanka said his side aimed to restrict Bangladesh to a chaseable score, expressing confidence in both pace and spin options. Meanwhile, Bangladesh skipper Litton Das welcomed the opportunity to bat first, calling it a chance to set a strong total under favourable Dubai conditions.
