At least 27 dead after tornadoes and storms tear across central U.S.

Powerful storms have killed at least 27 people and injured dozens across southern U.S. states, with Missouri and Kentucky hardest hit. The severe weather uprooted trees, ripped roofs off homes, and left 300,000 without power in Wisconsin alone.

Emergency crews are conducting rescue operations in affected areas where officials have declared states of emergency. The Washington Post confirmed seven fatalities in Missouri.

Meteorologists warn more storms and heavy rain could worsen the situation in coming days.
