PESHAWAR: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has sentenced a convicted terrorist to 24 years and six months imprisonment with Rs18 million fine.

The Anti-Terrorism Court Peshawar sentenced notorious terrorist Shams-ur-Rehman alias Samsoor son of Afsar Khan to 24 years and 6 months of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 18 million after being found guilty.

The prosecution presented solid evidence against the accused in court, which proved the charges of causing harm, extortion and involvement in various acts of terrorism.

The court also ordered the deportation of the accused after the completion of the sentence, as his Pakistani visa had also expired.

The CTD Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had nominated the accused in several serious cases, including provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code, Telegraph Act, Foreigners Act and Anti-Terrorism Act.

The court handed down a severe sentence in light of all these charges, which is being called a major breakthrough in the ongoing efforts against terrorism.

The investigation system has been further strengthened after the establishment of the new prosecution wing of CTD Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which has resulted in a significant improvement in the conviction rate of terrorists by the courts.

IG Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed appreciated the performance of CTD for this achievement and termed the investigation conducted on modern scientific lines as a milestone in the fight against terrorists.
