QUETTA: At least two people lost their lives and seven others were injured in a powerful explosion near the Killi Mangla area of Quetta, in what police suspect was a targeted attack.
According to officials, the blast was aimed at tribal leader Abdul Salam Bazai. Among the deceased are Abdul Salam Bazai and his brother, Abdul Nafay Bazai. Rescue teams reached the scene shortly after the incident and shifted the injured and deceased to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Police have cordoned off the area and launched an investigation to determine the exact nature of the blast, collecting evidence from the site.
The incident comes just a day after a deadly terrorist assault in Balochistan’s Surab district. Militants affiliated with the group “Fitna-tul-Hindustan” reportedly stormed the area on motorcycles, targeting soft civilian locations including a bank and the residence of a government official.
During the Surab attack, a group of 20 to 30 armed militants ransacked a market, harassed women and children, and looted a bank. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Hidayatullah Baloch heroically confronted the attackers and was martyred while defending civilians. The attackers fled as Frontier Corps forces arrived on the scene.
These back-to-back incidents have once again highlighted the fragile security situation in the region, prompting renewed calls for decisive action against terrorism.
