KP Audit Uncovers Rs 14.46 Billion in Financial Irregularities

PESHAWAR: An audit report has revealed financial irregularities worth Rs 14.46 billion in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the fiscal year 2024-25. The report highlights cases of embezzlement, fraudulent payments, and mismanagement across various government departments.

According to the findings, Rs 9.26 billion in irregularities were detected, including 22 cases of fake expenses and fraudulent payments. The audit uncovered over Rs 982.8 million in fictitious expenses and three major budgeting discrepancies involving Rs 14.46 billion.

Additionally, 23 cases of unauthorized expenses were reported, with suspicious transactions worth Rs 4.32 billion and Rs 3.4 billion. The report also identified eight cases of irregular contracts amounting to Rs 147.18 billion. Other issues included 36 irregularities in the construction sector, 50 cases of unrecovered government dues, and 17 instances of excessive salary and allowance payments.

The audit findings have raised serious concerns about financial mismanagement and accountability in the province.
