Kashmiris in various parts of the world, including Pakistan, are observing India’s Independence Day on August 15 as Black Day and participating in demonstrations and protest activities.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference has appealed to the courageous Kashmiri people that today is a complete strike in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The Hurriyat leadership said that when India celebrates independence, that day emerges as a symbol of slavery, military rule and oppression for Kashmiris.
The Hurriyat Conference says that the purpose of observing Black Day is to send a message to the international community that the Kashmiri people do not accept India’s illegal occupation but are waiting for their right to self-determination by UN resolutions.
The situation in the valley has once again become tense. Indian forces intensified raids after the appeal of the Hurriyat leadership; dozens of youth were arrested, while internet services were also suspended.
