Australia’s left-wing politician Anthony Albanese wins General Elections.
CANBERRA: Australian left-wing politician Anthony Albanese defeated his conservative rival Peter Dutton of the liberal party.
According to analysts, at a time when the world is in turmoil due to the economic downturn on the global horizon and the victory of Donald Trump in the United States, Australian voters have rejected the leadership of opposition party leader Peter Dutton, given Anthony Albanese’s slow but steady leadership. In the results so far, not only is Albanese’s Labor Party close to winning an unexpectedly large parliamentary majority, but opposition leader Peter Dutton has also suffered the worst defeat. The Australian Prime Minister said in his victory speech upon being re-elected that “Today the Australian people have voted for Australian values.” They voted for justice, ambition and opportunity for all. He added that “in a time of global uncertainty, the Australian people have chosen hope and determination”. As the results were announced on TV, enthusiastic Labor supporters celebrated the victory at an election camp in Sydney, throwing drinks bottles at Albanese’s portrait and chanting “Albo”- Anthony Albanese’s nickname. Albany has promised to embrace renewable energy, tackle the housing shortage crisis and invest in a failing health care system. The election campaign of the opposition leader and Albanese’s main rival, Peter Dutton, included reducing immigration, cracking down on crime and ending a long-standing ban on nuclear power. This is a big win for the prime minister, who made a surprising comeback to secure a comfortable majority for a second term. But it’s an even bigger loss for Dutton and his Liberal National Coalition.Dutton initially seemed to have an advantage over the incumbent PM, who was battling a cost-of-living crisis and dismal ratings. But that advantage vanished as the campaign wore on, ending in a humiliating defeat.
