Azam Swati submits corruption evidence against KP speaker to party accountability panel

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader and former Senator Azam Swati said on Saturday that he handed over evidence of corruption against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati to the party’s Internal Accountability Committee.

PTI’s internal accountability committee had asked Azam Swati to present proof of corruption allegations against Babar Saleem Swati.

Azam Swati alleged that elected representatives from Mansehra, including Speaker Babar Saleem Swati and Advisor to the Chief Minister on Tourism Zahid Chanzeb, were involved in corruption. He claimed that Speaker Babar Saleem Swati appointed more than 100 Grade-4 employees without following merit in the KP Assembly.

Speaking to Azaad Digital, Azam Swati said he had submitted evidence to the internal accountability committee and did not want to discuss it publicly.

It is pertinent to mention that Azam Swati had levelled these allegations at a public meeting in Mansehra. Following this, Speaker Babar Saleem Swati submitted a formal letter to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, requesting the formation of an inquiry committee to transparently investigate the allegations made by former Senator Azam Khan Swati during the public gathering.

The KP Assembly Speaker, Babar Saleem Swati, has submitted a formal letter to Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, seeking the formation of an inquiry committee to transparently probe the corruption allegations levelled by the former senator and PTI’s senior leader, Azam Khan Swati, in a public meeting in Mansehra last week.

In the letter, Babar Saleem Swati urged the CM that, as the custodian of the KP Assembly, he is responsible and answerable to the public. He emphasized his commitment to protecting public interest and ensuring transparent governance.

The speaker stated that it was essential to investigate the allegations against elected representatives from Mansehra, as he himself was elected from the Mansehra constituency (PK-37). He argued that such baseless accusations could damage their reputation.

Former Senator Azam Khan Swati had accused elected representatives from Mansehra constituencies of being involved in corruption. However, the elected MPAs from Mansehra individually dismissed the allegations as baseless.
