The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Tuesday summoned the Secretary Interior for a personal hearing in the application of the Pakistan Tehreek-I-Insaf leader, Azami Swati’s plea for removal of his name from the Exit Control List (ECL).

Justice Irshad Ali and Justice Khurshid Iqbal heard the case.

The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Monday summoned the Secretary Interior to appear in person on May 15 for the next hearing in a case related to the removal of Senator Azam Swati’s name from various travel restriction lists.

Justice Syed Arshad Ali observed that the Home Secretary had misinterpreted the court’s earlier order, which had explicitly directed the removal of Swati’s name from all relevant lists and permitted him to travel abroad.

The court noted that it had ordered the removal of Swati’s name from the list, but the directive was not fully implemented.

According to the petitioner’s counsel, Advocate Ali Azeem Afridi, Swati’s name was initially included in the Provisional National Identification List (PNIL), the Exit Control List (ECL), and the Passport Control List (PCL). He informed the court that while the name was removed from the PNIL and PCL, it remained on the ECL, in violation of the court’s ruling.

Due to this partial compliance, the court issued a summons for the Secretary Interior to appear personally and explain the matter. The hearing was adjourned till May 15.
