BAJAUR:  A severe hailstorm accompanied by heavy rain and thunder battered Bajaur on Thursday night, damaging standing crops and exacerbating cold weather conditions across the region, officials said. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) warned that intermittent rains are likely to persist until March 27.

Local farmers reported significant losses to wheat fields and fruit orchards due to the unseasonal hailstorm, which followed days of steady rainfall. Temperatures dropped sharply, with residents describing the weather as “unusually harsh” for late March.

The PMD urged residents to exercise caution, citing risks of flash floods in low-lying areas and advising farmers to take protective measures for vulnerable crops. Authorities have not yet estimated the financial impact of the damage.
